12-Step: February's Step

So. How was your January? Did you take that first step? Have you completed your step from January? I've heard progress reports from a few of you, I've only had a "step 1 completed!" progress report from one Stepper. As I think I said before, I have a little congratulatory something for those of you brave enough to commit publicly to a step and then actually accomplish it. I even completed my step, taking almost the entire month to get it done. But that's the key phrase, isn't it? "Get it done." Goals are good, but accomplishing them is far better!!

Which brings us to February.

In January, I listed three goals. I had my pie-in-the-sky goal, my realistic goal, and my 12-step goal. To my surprise, only the 12-step goal was completed. But I made it halfway through the realistic goal, and began working on the pie-in-the-sky goal.

I'm going to list similar goals for February. First, here is my pie-in-the-sky goal. As you can see, it is actually in progress. I am quilting on it!! I started this quilt in a Ruth McDowell class in 2007. I would LOVE to be able to have it finished for show and tell at Asilomar by March 8. Quilt, quilt, and quilt some more. That's the goal for this big project. (It measures approximately 48" x 72".)

My realistic goal is to finish these next two quilts. The first is the baby quilt that I pieced on January 1. It needs about 2 -3 hours to be completed. That includes quilting and binding. Shouldn't take long. The bottom quilt is the Sue Rasmussen landscape. It shouldn't take long to quilt either, but it's less likely to be finished. February is a short month, doncha know?

I also need to pick my fabrics for my Cynthia Corbin workshop at Asilomar. I got started on Friday...

Finally, my February step is to draw a pattern. (Blogger is at it again. Excuse my tippiness.)

My eldest son Andrew expressed a desire for a queen-sized Rose Window quilt for his graduation present. He graduated in 2007. I've got the fabrics pulled (I made him pick them from my stash!) and I've got the paper. I've got the inspiration, I've got the compass. The big thing that I haven't done, the thing that is holding me back, is the pattern. I have to design/draw/draft the pattern. Step 2 Goal: Draft Q-sized Rose Window Pattern by or before 2/28/09.

I haven't had a lot of luck drafting round patterns, but perhaps if I'm extra-careful, this one might actually fit together without fudging...

And there you go: my February Goals, and my February Step. It's in writing, for all to see. Now let's go out and take those steps!!

Sounds good, Suzanne.

Here is my February goal: I will finish sewing together the pieced arcs and little arced triangle filler pieces for a wallhanging that has been about 4 years in the planning and actual sewing stages. This will at least complete the border of yet another wallhanging that has been hanging in my dining room on a double sheet of butcher paper for over a year....a lovely piece of temporary decor, suitable for any dining room, don't you think? Doesn't everyone turn their dining room into a sewing center when they have run out of wall space in their sewing room?

Let's hear it for blank walls!

Anyway, that is my goal for February 2009 :-)

My UFO for February will be to bind the Amish "Chinese Coins" wall hanging which I designed, made, and hand quilted. It needs to get on the wall while there is still some winter left!
