Well, Well, Well...

Okay, so remember one month ago, when I was certain my SAQA Auction donation was lost in the mail?  I was so relieved when it finally appeared on the website.  whew!!  They received it!  It may be a simple piece, but I'm quite taken with it.  :)   So anyway, a SAQA bulletin came out yesterday, saying that a total of 394 quilts have been donated!  Wow!!  I hope they all sell for the big bucks!    They also announced that the quilts for auction at IQF Houston have been chosen.
Well, of course I started on page 1A, where my quilt had last been seen.  say what?  It was gone.  Suddenly it hit me.  Could it be?  Indeed, it could!  "A Splash of Color" is one of the quilts chosen to be auctioned in Houston.  woohoo!!  I am in good company, as I see Franki's quilt on the same roster.  I see the quilts of several other quilt acquaintances from Asilomar and blogland...Does this mean I should begin planning a trip to Houston?  :)  Stranger things have happened.  :)

In the meantime, I've made small progress on my Hoffman Challenge.  I have 4 remaining seams to cover with embroidery, then it will be time to begin the inner applique.  What do I plan to put in the center?  ahhh, now that's a surprise!  :)
I did have a bit of an accident when assembling.  I'm usually a cotton snob, not using any other fibers in my pieces, but when I saw embroidery done with Razzle Dazzle thread, I thought it would add a great sparkle, which it did.

However when pressing, my pressing cloth shifted and I melted some thread which smeared black plastic on the center palette.  *sigh*  I suppose I should take out the stitching and embroider it anew.  Or I could just cover it with a geegaw.  I do have a piece of hand-dyed velvet ribbon that I've thought would make a nice inner border...it's just wide enough to cover the black smear on the inner purple.

Don't tell anyone - it'll be our little secret...

Wow! Congratulations! I'm so glad the quilt showed up -- and in time to be selected for the Houston trip. And I learned about my quilt from you!! I am indeed in good company.
