On Friday, we tried to get to Maui. Instead, we spent 24 hours in LA, courtesy of American Airlines. This is outside LAX, as we were waiting for transport to our courtesy hotel. Thanks, AA. Hibiscus in LA are not the same as hibiscus in Hawaii. Location, location, location!
On Saturday, we were the last two bodies loaded onto a Delta flight. We were in Maui in time for lunch. I spy Penny, I spy Dampa!
For dinner, we went to the magic show at Warren & Annabelle's, in Lahaina. If you are ever on Maui, it is a must see. I haven't laughed so hard in years. I can't remember much of what was said or done, but it was a massively cathartic experience. I highly recommend it!
On Sunday, we woke up and looked out our window. Instead of being "mountainside" of the Westin, we were upgraded to poolside. On the second floor, we directly overlooked the waterfall, complete with flamingos.
Look who else was there! Our son from Arkansas!
And Penny's Mommy, (and her Daddy was there too).
We spent Sunday in a most constructive manner.
That night we ate at Kimo's, on Front St in Lahaina.
On Tuesday morning, we went to Cheeseburger in Paradise. If you love kitschy decor, you'll love this place for the atmosphere alone. The food is excellent too, as well as the view over the ocean.
We took a break so the men could check in. Husband is working, son is looking for directions to Mele Ukulele.
I don't google, I ogle.
Next stop was the Maui Ocean Center. The aquarium is small (compared to Monterey), but it has a special sea turtle exhibit and lots of colorful local fish.
Papa sat with Penny, who was too pooped to pop.
The outdoor pond, which, in CA, it would be filled with trout.
Flying sea turtle.
Penny insisted that all of the fish were flying. We were in the tunnel, under the shark tank. When this diver flew over us, she totally freaked, "No like it! Don't like it! I'm done!" and she headed out the exit at top speed. There was no convincing her of any reason to stay.
This trigger fish is seen everywhere. It's called humuhumu-nukunuku-apua‘a. Yeah. Say that 10 times fast! It's also referred to as the "sea pig."Dinner on Tuesday was a luau...
Taking a picture of taking a picture of the sunset. My camera did not do it justice.
Dancers, of course.
We even got to meet them, too up close and personal for Penny's taste. (He'd just offered her his hat. "No like it!")
And wow. That's enough pictures for one post. Husband left early the next morning to get back to work. The rest of us had a few more days to enjoy the Maui experience. It was lovely.
